When I'm able to get through the licensing, I'll primarily use ham radio for spotter things and maybe SAR activities around the National Forest I am often in.

I don't want to do a base station at home. I'd rather go handheld, something I can take with me.

Anyone have any good suggestions for a radio that is worth buying but won't break the bank?
